New to pre-workouts? Here’s how to get started

If you’re like many of us, you’ve made a quick pit stop to grab a cup of coffee or an energy drink on your way to the gym. We get it. Between juggling work, life, friendships, relationships, our furry friends… It is necessary! But there are downsides - the carbonation upsets your stomach and halfway through your workout, you feel exhausted. It’s time to upgrade to the stuff made for workouts. With so many options to choose from, it is easy to get overwhelmed! Not to worry. Here are three tips to get you started:

Caffeine - more isn’t better!

The products out there range from caffeine free to 500 mg of caffeine or more! Before you pick one, first assess your tolerance. If you’re consuming energy drinks, have a look at the supplement facts and see how much caffeine they contain. AND, how do they make you feel? If you get an upset stomach, or an energy crash, it might be time to dial it back. One cup of brewed coffee (8 oz) on average contains 95 mg of caffeine. How many are you consuming a day?

It is possible to be over stimulated, and ruin your workout as a result. So start low and go slow! If you’re new, we recommend mixing half a scoop of the Stryve Nutrition Pre Workout powder with 4 oz of water to start to see how you feel. It is refreshing, hydrating, and energizing! You can work your way up to a full serving as you feel more comfortable.

Check the label.

Proprietary blends - where there is a mix of ingredients without any visibility to how much of each ingredient you actually consume - are a thing of the past. You deserve full transparency! So if the tub you’ve been looking at doesn’t disclose how much of it’s key ingredients it includes in each scoop, move on.

Align with your goals.

We all workout for different reasons. And whether it is to get stronger, faster, or leaner, there are formulations for each specific need. Endurance athlete? You’ll need a product that packs electrolytes. Powerlifter? Creatine! And if you’re doing some of everything, get a pre-workout that has a good mix of energy, power, and hydration so you can maximize your results.
